Responsibilities JOB SUMMARY: The Safety Internship position is involved in day-to-day activities of the department, assisting in coordination and preparation of reports, training manuals and programs along with many other duties relating to plant safety. This position has the responsibility to comply with Safety work rules at all times as well as an obligation to reinforce Safety as a Core Value. Ensures that all policies, procedures and activities, related to Food Safety & Quality, are followed and complied with uniformly, in an effort to reduce product and process variability. JOB ACTIVITIES: Monitors and analyzes data such as, safety inspections, exposure level testing, injuries, safety incentive program, SDS program, etc. Participates in safety related audits, inspections and projects. Assists with investigation of incidents, accidents and near misses. Coordinates committee meetings, participate and take notes as needed. Assists in the communication of safety to employees through group meetings, orientations, newsletter, etc. Follows MFEPC Safety Policies as well as OSHA regulations to help enforce safe work practices. Compiles data and generate reports by entering data into computer, determining information to include in reports, verifying data and distributing reports to appropriate parties. Performs clerical work such as data entry, filing, Assumes personal responsibility to insure safe and healthy workplace for everyone. Adhere to all safety policies and procedures and, incorporate safety and health in all jobs and tasks. Adheres to Quality work practices, follows GMP’s, maintains sanitary conditions and ensures that product quality is maintained. Reports to management any conditions or practices that may adversely affect food safety and quality. Ensures regulatory compliance at all times. Perform other duties as assigned. Able to work varied schedule as needed. May include different shifts, weekends, holidays and overtime. Qualifications QUALIFICATIONS: Ability to facilitate meetings or provide training to all levels of employee. Ability to work well with all levels (be a team player). Organized with strong attention to detail. Ability to solve fairly complex problems and manage multiple tasks. Must have the ability to work independently, establish priorities and accomplish objectives with minimal supervision. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Bi-lingual (Spanish) is preferred EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Currently enrolled in a post-secondary program with related field Working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Word, PowerPoint and Excel. Have a good understanding of OSHA standards.
